Okay, so I know the blog name is “annnielikestoreadandwatchtv” but since I’m also a teacher and in grad school, I thought I would chronicle my teaching and my grad school journey.

So hi, welcome. I plan to write about my teaching journey, my teaching experiences, taking my certification exams and hopefully passing (fingers crossed), and maybe some interesting and funny teaching stories. Quite possibly some of those stories may just turn into rants..

Alright, so that was enough of me rambling. Let me introduce myself. I’m Anna and I worked as a 3rd grad ICT/Special Education teacher for three years in a charter school after getting my first master’s in Education Policy. I decided to go back to grad school for my second master’s to get my certification/license in English Education, grades 7-12 and I’ve thought about eventually doing an advanced certificate in TESOL or maybe Special Education but that’s a story for another time.

Anyway, I got my first master’s in Education Policy back in 2019 and then I had two emergency surgeries within months and then the pandemic hit (didn’t expect that trauma dump, did you?). I was basically out of luck and searching for a job in the education field for about two years when I finally landed this teaching position. And while I enjoyed teaching and working with the kids for the most part, the charter school I was at had a lot of issues (I’ll touch on that in another post, I know you want to know the juicy details).

So anyway, at the end of my first year of teaching, I applied to graduate teacher preparation programs and in my second year of teaching, I started my second master’s and it’s been a year (give or take) of me working full-time as a teacher and being in grad school part-time at the same time and trying to balance being a student and a teacher while trying not to lose my mind.

But this upcoming school year, things are looking a little differently. I’m not returning to the school I was working at and I’m going to be in grad school full-time. Hopefully, this will give me the opportunity to finish my degree faster, pass my certification exams and find a job in a public school, which will hopefully be a lot better than the charter school I was working in.
